Pillow Panic
In the June
newsletter, we announced our new line of indoor and outdoor pillows. We
promised to have them on the website in July but, thanks to an even
more enthusiastic response than we had anticipated, the pillows
completely sold out at the seminar. Linda and Laurie are
busy creating more, and we will have new ones in the website's
store this week, including both indoor and outdoor pillows.
Each indoor pillow is made with designer fabrics - most from Europe
- in luscious toiles, beautiful tapestries, sumptuous chenilles and
fabulous wovens in a wide range of colors and textures. Outdoor pillows
are fanciful combinations of tone-on-tone textured patterns, chenille
stripes, and brilliantly colored solids and geometrics that are
fade, mold and mildew resistent. You won't believe they're made for
outside.
Visit our online
store to see
photos and descriptions of all the pillows, but please
remember... each pillow is one of a kind, and when it's gone, it's gone!

Interested in an
Internet Seminar?
Q. Please, please, please... not
all of us are able to travel to your seminars. We still love your style
and would love to have your help. Write a book. Offer an internet
seminar. Those of us in other parts of the country would love to have the
opportunity to take part. Keep up the good work!
A. I am happy to report
that we are making progress in both of these areas. My first book, Rooms
with Good Bones, is currently in production for publication in the
spring by Gibbs-Smith, and you will be hearing more about that via future
newsletters. I love the idea of an internet seminar or webinar,
and we are researching that right now. It would be great if anyone
reading this who might be interested in a webinar would e-mail us and let us know.
Making Cool Colors
Glow
Q. I attended
your recent seminar with my mother (it was amazing and fun). While
Mom is an earthy, warm color person, I am not. Are there ways to make a
cooler-colored room "glow"? I love your warm and inviting
rooms, but would like to use colors that describe me.
A. On one hand, the very
definition of the word "glow" would suggest warmer-toned
colors, but I understand what you're saying, and there are ways to
incorporate glow into cooler environments. In the photo (below left)
of a living room that overlooks San Francisco Bay, we painted
the walls and columns a soothing blue-green and covered the floor with a
green rug, on which two loveseats with pale blue, green and gold strips
boast cool-toned pillows. The window treatments have a pale green
background with blue, gold and burgundy accents, and the artwork is
primarily blues and greens. However, the room feels warm and inviting
because of the warmth of the wood floors, the creamy tone of the
ceilings, the glow from the fireplace and the red and orange accents in
the owners' glass collection displayed around the room. The greens in the
rugs, sofas and window treatments have yellow in them, and the wall
color also has some ochre pigment that gives the cool color a subtle
glow. To make cooler environments glow, try choosing cool colors
that contain some yellow or ochre undertones, then incorporate
warm wall and ceiling colors and accents into the room. I think you
will truly experience a difference in how much better they feel. (BTW -
there are more photos of this home on our website's Portfolio page. Click on Interior
